Our licorice ice cream: a taste that reminds you of home

There are flavors you choose because you want a change and then there are flavors you choose because they take you back in time, without asking your permission.

For us, licorice is just like that.

It's one of those flavors that you either love or you don't understand, but if you really love it... just smelling it instantly changes your mood.

“When we opened Leccapaletta, one thing was clear from the very beginning: licorice ice cream had to be there.
Not necessarily for everyone… but certainly for us.”

Licorice: an ancient history, a flavor that never fades

Before becoming candy, a stick, a confection, or an ice cream, licorice is a real plant.

Licorice grows modestly, from the earth, but has a huge personality. It's one of those flavors that needs no introduction: you can recognize it with your eyes closed.

For a long time it was also used for practical, everyday purposes such as infusions and extracts: it was a concrete thing, to be kept there, as people do when something “works”.

This is also why we like it so much today: because it has a long, true history, made up of habits and small rituals.

Licorice ice cream: the hard part is getting it right.

Making licorice ice cream seems simple…until you actually do it.

Licorice is powerful: if you push it too hard, it becomes heavy, but if you treat it timidly, it disappears.

Balance is needed:

  • it should be intense, but not tiring
  • it must be creamy, but with character
  • It should leave real licorice in the mouth, not a "fake" or flat flavor

Who do we recommend it to?

If you're a licorice fan, you already know: this is a flavor that makes you smile as soon as you taste it.

If you're not sure, try it without prejudice, because often those who say "I don't like licorice" have never actually tried it made well.

When you hear it, everything changes and then something beautiful happens: there are those who come back and say "I didn't think so, but now I always take it".

Why is it a taste of the heart for Roberta?

In an ice cream shop, flavors aren't just flavors, they're choices, they tell a story.

Licorice, says Roberta, is because if a flavor has been with you since you were little, it means it's not just a preference, but a part of you.

Leccapaletta is exactly this: in the window you find only what we make, inside there must be a real story and certain things, when they are true, you taste them at first taste.

If you pass by Leccapaletta, ask for the licorice ice cream.
It's not just a taste, it's a piece of home in a tub.
